"She was made of roses"

52 weeks - Week 4

February 11, 2014

Hi everyone,

I hope you found your way over from my blogger blog to my new blog here on my brand new website! What do you think of my new website by the way? :)

So far I have showed you my images for the first three weeks of my 52 week project. Today I want to show you my image for week 4. The theme was "Flowers" and initially that was a bit of a problem for me since I had only just taken a flower image for week 2 (see here). (I actually ended up using the same flowers for both photos - only in this case, I used the petals.)

I sketched a few ideas and showed them to my friends and the one I ended up using (which is the one you see here) seemed to be the most popular one. I chose the dress I am wearing here because the sleeves have always reminded me of flowers. I found it in a thrift shop last year and call it my princess dress. Can you guess why?

Actually going outside and taking the photo was probably the most difficult part of this photo because it was freezing cold outside and only with the support of my boyfriend who accompanied me to my location, I was able to convince myself that I really wanted to take this photo on that day. We ended up having a lot of fun although I was completely frozen once we were done! And it was really good that he was there because my remote stopped working the moment I was about to take my first picture and he had to help me then.

As you can see in the explanation above, getting your hair to flip the way you want to and getting the expression right does not always work out in just one photo and in this case I ended up having to composite with parts of the dress and hair from another photo. And of course I had to add in the rose petals I threw around over and over again. Then the fun part began (for me this is the most fun) and I could work with tones and light until I was satisfied with the result.

I hope you like it!

All the best,
Andrea
